Men's Olympic Tournament Schedule

Competition Dates: 20-24 July and 26-28 July
Number of Athletes: 156 men (12 teams of 13)
Program: 12-team tournament
Venue: Georgia Tech Aquatic Center
Competition Format:

The top four teams from each pool advance into quarterfinals. The four winners in the quarterfinals advance to the medal rounds. Each team will play each of the five other teams in its pool prior to the medal and qualification rounds. The games consist of four 7-minute quarters.

Groups for Final Round

The 5th and 6th placed teams in Group A and Group B form Group C of four teams. Group C plays a round robin format.

The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams in Group A and Group B form a Group D of eight teams. Group D plays a modified single elimination format.

Games played in the Preliminary Round may be repeated in the Final Round. All games played in Group D must be played so that a definite winner is declared accordingly. It may be necessary to apply the Water Polo rules regarding extra time.

Classification of teams ranked 9-12 shall be made on points within Group C, namely 2 points for each match one, 1 point for each match drawn, and O points for each match lost. No results shall be carried forward from the preliminary round.

Breaks in competition could occur after days five and seven or otherwise without requiring a change to these rules.
